It’s a shame United sung it first, eh?..
-
ONE of the most bitter rivalries in football has taken a new twist with the claim that Liverpool fans stole their famous You’ll Never Walk Alone anthem from Manchester United supporters.
Grandmother Jane Hardwick says she was left seeing red after reading a letter in a newspaper which said the song, made famous by Gerry and the Pacemakers, was first belted out on the terraces of Anfield.
Jane, a lifelong Reds’ supporter from this end of the East Lancs Road, claims it was originally sung by her and thousands of fans at Old Trafford long before it became associated with Liverpool.
Jane, 61, was a teenage opera singer when many of her footballing heroes were killed in the tragic Munich air crash in 1958.
And as her own special tribute to the Busby Babes, heartbroken Jane convinced her friends from New Mills Operatic Society in Derbyshire to join her in a rousing rendition of the song at one of the games following the tragedy.
The tune was written for the 1945 musical Carousel, which Jane and her friends were rehearsing at the time. The pals started the singing but soon You’ll Never Walk Alone was being belted out by thousands of fans at Old Trafford.
However, during the 1960s the song was adopted by Liverpool fans.
Jane, who now runs a bed and breakfast in Leek, was first taken to Old Trafford at six weeks old by her father and grandfather.
She said: “It has annoyed me so much that people think the song was first sung by the Liverpool fans.
“The Munich crash was so horrible and everyone was feeling down and despondent and it just seemed an appropriate song to sing.
“It was an emotional time and I managed to persuade my friends to join in with me. Soon the whole ground was singing it and many people, including me, were in tears.
“I never dreamed it would become the anthem of our old rivals but I wanted to put the record straight about where the song originated from on the terraces.”
When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high,
And don’t be afraid of the dark.
At the end of a storm,
There’s a golden sky,
And thesweet silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Though your dreams be tossed and blown…
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart,
And you’ll never walk alone,
You’ll never walk alone.
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart,
And you’ll never walk alone…
You’ll never walk alone.
ellohappy new year everyone.what a start to the year.Everything seems to kick off just fine. Yeap. New Year. New resolution. A lot of hope I’m putting in this year. I still don’t know what are the unpredictables are going to be this year but for sure, there’s a few things that are already lining up in my mind. In May I will be doing my Industrial Training. I’m in the accounting line if anyone of you don’t know, and…forget about the Big 4’s. I didn’t go for one of their interview. I went to the other 2, but failed terribly. The reason’s might be my off the par results and the bond I have after my 4 years studies…future plans and stuffs. But anyway, I’m glad that I finally get a place to undergo my training this summer…fuiyoh..summer…what else? Yeah, my studies..need to work hard on it.PKV Easter celebration coming up..going to be a big big thing it seems… we are actually having a musical this year!!!! All the best to the PKV Easter team!!!!!And…church…yeah..finally after 3 years of silence.. the church camp is back this year…also in March.A few days after the easter thingy. What else…hmm… Anyway, cheers to the Malaysian football team. Yeah, we lost to
Thailand in the group stages but we did put up a good show. And we qualify for the semi’s….HAHA!!! Cekap..The other day I went strolling in Mid Valley and come upon the Nike shop at top floor. The whole premise was promoting the Malaysian team and the new Kit…Haha… The new Kit looks awesome I might say. Looks…erm… classic.. So I went in lar to the shop. Check out the jersey. And the price too…and guess what??? The price for the new kit is RM259!!! Waliaoweh…the same price for other Nike sponsor shirts too..namely Arsenal and Manchester United. I was like talking to the salesgirl why in the world theu put such a high price tag?? Would anyone buy the shirt? At least put lar cheaper…Around RM100+ would be okay…since it is Nike. But RM 259 is too much man. For a so-long-already flop Malaysian team. Sigh…whatever..the salesgirl said the shirt is manufactured at the same country as the other jerseys too… Would I buy it? Absolutely not… way too expensive.. er… but the shirt is cekap lar I might say…Coming up for the week is of course Jason’s performance at his CF’s High Praise night…haha… My bro Jason is one talented guy man… his songwritting is marvelous. This Thursday he will deliver 2 of his songs.. a fast number and a slow ones.I like the latter. Donno why. When you hear how he sings it out of his passion and heart…it really moves you..me…And this weekend will be heading up to Genting. Part of my church’s Young Adults Outing Retreat…. And Joshua will be worship leading this Sunday at my church..haha…I think that’s all for now la…just simply rambles something here…sigh..tired la..sleepy…
Allrite…
Tat’s the latest tagline from a list long of bummer’s tagline. You know, like the alltime favourite and famous “waliaoweh”, “fuiyoh” and ” cekap” to name a few. Anyway I have good news for all of you. I mean for me at least. Finally I’ve got my placement in a company for my industrial training. I’ve so worried because most, or shud I say all of my coursemates has got their placement way before me…like last year. If all of you have not know, I applied or rather went for interview for some of the big 4 firms but, sadly…ya..sob sob… I got rejected. Failure man. But of course thank God that I got a placement in this company. Near my house. Not too bad lar…haha…. no more worries…
